Below are examples of the horse racing ratings.

The horse racing ratings were constructed so I could price up races and find weak short priced horses to lay & value back bets, value to some people means something completley different to another, I can find value in a 1/2 shot if I think it should be 1/5, were as other people might only consider value at double figure odds, I cannot see the logic in that, but each to their own.

Which also takes me on to the next point of what bet to make, I personally lay or back a horse in the win market, aswell as backing in the place market, over 80% of my wagers are on betfair, unless a generous bookie is offering 33/1 about a 16/1 shot and then it’s time to get greedy and take the 33/1 each way and have a small win bet on betfair at 50's. You should decide your own betting niche, as I am sure a few would cringe at laying at up to odds of 14.00, which of course is my own cut off. I also stake my lays in accordance to the odds, it’s kind of mixed level staking, with four levels. My back bet stakes are much simpler, 1-6% back win bets & 1-5% place bets.

Some simple advice is do not back the negative rated horses, but please do realise outsiders do win, I have seen  -50 rated horses win, but as expected at huge odds 66/1 bookie prices and obviously not considered a lay on the betting exchanges, its only when their at odds of 14.00 and shorter do I get stung.

Please keep checking back for more example races or see the appropriate day for how the ratings performed.

Remember these are just examples of what to look out for. This is not a horse racing tipster service, it is however a horse racing ratings service that can help you produce better profits.

In this above example we hit the bookies for six or betfair layers for 48!!! hope it wasn't the same person who laid me 21.00 for a place the other day... As you can see there are 3 horses rated over 40, and as you might guess these are the ones that I look out for, even more so when only one of them is rated over 60. It was time for a big each way bet @ 33/1 and a small win & place bet @ 48 & 9.8, I would have had a place bet on one of the others if the prices had been big enough, so I just had a combo-tricast on the top 3 paying £390 to a £1 stake.

Result - Swallow Forest (25/1 won), Westwood (9/4 2nd), Hamaasy (11/2 3rd).

The above race was from Lingfield 07/12/08

A race with a strong bias towards the positive rated horses, this would be an ideal race to lay negative rated horses, if below 14.00 on betfair, the negative horse here (Yakama) is over that price and is therefore NOT a lay. I did therefore consider the prices of the horses rated below a positive rating of 20, but for a lay I would require two of them to lay at odds coupled under 7.00 only two qualified for a coupled price of roughly 5.8. Both came unplaced.

My next bet was to check if the top rated horses place odds were fair to its place chance. Knowing that anything above 1.8 is fair for 3 places on a 65+ clear rated horse, i duly took the odds against and watch the bet scrape home for 3rd.

Result - Star Strider wins (6/1 SP), Yakama 2nd (16/1 bookies SP), General Feeling 3rd (8/1 SP)

The race above was from Sandown 06/12/08

At first glance it looks a strong bias for positive rated horses and the top rated been clear takes the eye. The 3/1 on offer at the bookies seems value to me about the top rated and both the 2nd and 3rd rated offer value in the place market. I have two small place bets on them, to make a slight profit and back the clear top rated quite big. For laying i only considered horses rated 10 and below at odds under 14.00. One stood out @ 6.2 Cash For Honours was the confident lay and was duly sunk.

Result - Clay Hollister (9/4 won), Quiver Hill (9/2 2nd), Blazing Desert (12/1 3rd).

Cash For Honours & the 2nd rated were unplaced.

The ratings to the left of the horse name is the conditional rating.

The top rated here I backed at 6.6. The 2nd rated was priced at 8.6, 3rd at 8.4 & 4th at 13.0, the two negative ratings at the bottom odds was 48 & 12 Ivory Lace.

Here I personally have two or three options, maybe a fourth if the place market odds for the 2nd-4th rated are value. I could and did lay Ivory Lace at 13.5; I did this because of the strength of positive ratings against the lack of negative ratings, I . Next I take a look at each ones respected experience & success over the distance, going & course (these are only available through email). I back the clear top rated as I thinks its good value considering that the bookies favourite is Sams Cross at roughly same odds. I then take a good look at the place market & back for a place at 2.44, at this point I don’t fancy having any cash on Murrin but I am happy fot it to run for me against my lay bet. Both the 3rd & 4th rated look fair value for a place bet at 2.74 & 3.45 respectivley.

Result - Clear top rated wins, and two of my place bets get placed (winner & 3rd).

So hopefully you will understand how I look for lays & how I tackle clear top rated.

I played this race because I was amazed at the top rated horse Sibi Saba odds 8.4, were as the favourites odds Amhooj was 3.25 and getting backed, for me it was to much of a difference considering the chances the favourite has had. Naturally I had a win & place bet on the top rated at those odds. I was considering a lay bet on Art Guild, I did not for two reasons, A) I prefer to lay -15 or worse rated horses, and B) even though the odds was nearly a lay price in my book for the amount of runners to positive ratings I felt the 4th & 5th rated were not strong enough rated for me to consider them on my side.

Result - Top rated wins, Arts Guild 2nd & Amhooj 3rd.

A tricky looking race on paper, but with the ratings it was narrowed down to two options. A lay bet on Buffalo Bob @ 4.8 and two place bets on Kadouchski 11.5 & Bring It On Home @ 9.8.

I was pleased to hear from other members who backed Kadouchski @ odds of 40/1 each way, so it was just not me who saw the value in this bet.

Result - Kadouchski (20/1 won), Spartan Place (7/1), Karky Schultz.

I wouldn't normally  get involved in a race like this at this time of year, as I state below. Anyhow after pricing up the race it was evident that 3 horses stood out all for differing reasons. First off the top rated at 3.00 was value in my book, but i refrained from backing as I thought my 2nd option was safer, a lay on Cabernet Sauvigoun @ just over 3.5, it was a lay because I was prepared to lay any horse under a rating of 17, which produced 6 horses, but only Cabernet Sauvigoun was under 14.00. The market support for the top rated and Cabernet Sauvigoun made me uneasy, but I was confident the price was wrong. My 3rd option as usual was to take a look at the place market, the top rated odds was not value at under 1.8 and I wasn't expecting them to be, my main reason to look at the place odds was that of Joannadarc, who had just missed out as a bookie each way bet because its rating fell 1pt below 40, I was truly amazed and very grateful to be offered odds of 21.00 for 3 places!!! thank you very much who ever you are :-) I did not consider the 37 rated horse for a place bet due to two reasons A) My liabilities were mounting up on a race I wouldn't normally play. B)  I was pretty sure I was only aiming for 2 out of the 3 places if my ratings ran to form, so I played a small combo-trifecta including the 37 rated horse, the odds made sense as opposed to backing for a place, even though I didnt collect on the bet it self.

Result - Yellow Printer (6/4) wins, Cabernet Sauvigoun 2nd (2/1), Joannadarc 3rd (66/1)

This is a type of race at this time of year I do not consider, unless there are strong factors/ratings.

I choose this race mainly as an example of trappy races. I would agree to back one of the positive rated if I had a strong view of the race, or if dutched to make a value bet. I will find a good race that came up a few weeks back were I backed the top 3 rated for combined odds of 7/2 in a 9 runner race, so I was getting 7/2 on a 2/1 shot. I will find it for an example in the next few days.

49SUZI SPENDS

42RIO GURU

Here is how to get it wrong!

5 of the 5 are postive rated, however the bottom rated compared to the others is obviously the weaker. I back the clear top rated at 6.5 and watch it get hammered in to as low as 3.8 before the off. If the top rated had not been clear and at shorter odds I would have not got involved, however at 6.5 I considered it a value bet even though any rating over 40 is considered better than average.

I know I got value at 6.5 and I never considered a lay in the race, I was happy to play small at value odds.

Result - Suzi Spends wins & Rio Guru is 2nd.
